Emotional intelligence, or EI, is a popular topic around the Endless Executives office, and for good reason. It’s a skill that allows us to accurately identify and successfully manage our own emotions while understanding another’s viewpoint.
Here are some of the ways we’ve found EI to impact our Endless Executives careers:
” Self-Awareness: “Know thyself,” is timeless wisdom, and those with a high EI can to do this better than others. This goes beyond knowing what we’re feeling, and includes being aware of how our feelings impact our work. Also, being self-aware means we can assess our strengths and weaknesses more truthfully.
” Self-Management: Not only is it important to know what we’re feeling, it’s vital that we learn how to direct those emotions in a positive way. Rather than allowing our reactions to guide our actions, we control our words and responses. This level of restraint gives us more leverage in any situation – especially new environments and when rapid change is taking place.
” Soft Skills: Being friendly and cool under pressure are two examples of soft skills – and those with a high EI find it relatively easy to embody such traits consistently. Not only are soft skills crucial for leadership, they are vital when it comes to such activities as networking and customer acquisition as well.
